Bad things happen to good people, sometimes for reason. Whether its fair or not, you are stuck dealing with things. Here is some help:
Bad thing #1: Your drop your cell phone in a pitcher of beer.
What’s worse is that you are on contract with your cell phone provider, and you are not eligible for a hardware upgrade. You could pay $400 and get out o the contract to get a new phone at promotional pricing. Or you could do yourself a favour and sneak a peek on Kijiji or Ebay for a used phone for a subsidized price.
If you’re looking for a smart phone, you h can get an iPhone4 16GB for $300-$350 or a Blackberry Bold 9780 for $200. If those are out of your price range, grab a basic phone like a Nokia C3 for $40 on Kijiji, or grab one at Rogers or Bell for a mere $90.
Get back to talking to your mom in no time!
Bad thing #2: School is busy. You’re stressed.
School is always hectic and we tend to not take care of ourselves as much as we should. I am obsessed with yoga as a de-stressing tool. There is one part about yoga I appreciate the most, the first part being the meditation and self awareness practice.

Meditation will help you relax and open your mind. Find a quiet place, relax, and let your mind be blank.
Meditation is used by many for different reasons; from self-discovery to opening their minds, yogis (what we yoga obsessed are called), tend to practice one method more frequently to suit their lifestyle better.
To help cope with stress, I find it most effective to use a type of meditation called Dyhana, or Manta meditation. Here’s how to do it:
I. Select a phrase, or a favourite prayer you will use for your mantra. Ideally it should really only be a few words long, so you can repeat it easily. Try to choose something that inspires you or relaxes you.
II. Find a comfortable place on the floor, supporting your posture with a blanket or a cushion. Sit in a position both aligned with the natural curves of the spine and relaxed, so you can remain fairly still. Cross your legs and let your arms fall limp. Close your eyes and take a few slow, deep breaths. If you find it difficult to relax your breathing, try doing some breathing practices for several minutes, and then relax you should be able to relax your breath completely.
III. Repeat your mantra slowly and steadily, concentrating on its sound as fully as you can. Repeat it in unison with the natural rhythm of your breath. Either split it so you repeat half the mantra when you inhale and the other half when you exhale, or repeat it on both the inhalation and the exhalation.
IV. After about 10 recitations, repeat the mantra silently by moving only your lips (this helps you keep a steady pace). Then, after another 10 repetitions, recite it internally without moving your lips.
V. As thoughts arise, simply return to the mantra, knowing this is a natural part of the process. Gently bring your attention back again and again, experiencing the internal sound as fully as possible. Basically the mantra is to help you think of only the mantra, to clear your mind of all other thoughts.
VI. Continue for the period of time you set aside for meditation. Come out of the meditation by taking a few deep breaths and then sitting quietly to see what you feel. Usually for me it’s complete relaxation, now that is. At first when I would come out of meditation I would be flooded with all the thoughts I was previously ignoring. I promise it gets easier to deal with as you practice more.
Bad thing #3: Your desk is so dull.
I am a huge fan of fresh flowers on my desk. I know mean probably won’t appreciate this as much as the female students, but guys if you take one thing out of this, it should be where to buy cheap flowers for your lady friend!
Believe it or not some Dollerama stores actually have flowers – even roses – for two dollars! Since the stores round my house don’t, I buy my flowers for $7 at Zehrs. They have a section in floral called Farmer’s Fresh and you can get small bouquets of all different kinds of flowers for very cheap.
Every week I grab a new colour or a new type or flower to change it up and keep my desk looking pretty and fresh, so I can write lots of happy blogs for you poor students!
